Why a wall-mounted seat?
When mounted correctly, a fold-down seat is sturdier than a portable seat, and it saves floor space because it folds up. That is useful for older adults, for anyone who wants to sit while showering, and for roll-in showers that need open floor.
How to choose a fold-down shower seat
- Weight capacity. Match the rated capacity to the person using it. Bariatric options go up to 1,100 pounds.
- Height. The 2010 ADA Standards set the seat height for an accessible shower at 17 to 19 inches above the floor.
- Material. Phenolic seats are a durable, easy-to-clean option. Look at each product for details.
