ADA Toilet Area Requirements (Section 604)
Accessible toilet planning involves more than one measurement. ADA bathroom layouts are designed to support safer transfers, clear floor space, and reachable support features around the toilet area.
- Clear floor space and fixture placement matter for accessibility
- Support features should be positioned to assist with balance and transfer
- Toilet-side wall and rear wall layout are both part of ADA planning
For exact bar lengths, heights, and placement rules, see our ADA Grab Bar Guide .
ADA Shower Planning Basics
ADA shower requirements depend on the shower type, interior dimensions, clearances, entry style, and control placement. Roll-in showers are one of the most common accessible shower layouts because they support barrier-free entry.
- Roll-in and transfer showers use different layout rules
- Interior clear space matters more than the label alone
- Threshold, controls, seating, and support features all affect compliance
